What if we could turn our attention back to Christ and back to the Christmas message - the message of love, compassion, peace, and forgiveness?
The Christmas message is a story of hope, promise, and an overwhelming love that is still changing the world today. The question is, what happened, what has changed Christ's birthday to what it is now? We once celebrated the birth of our Savior, but in somehow we turned it into a season of Christmas stress, never-ending lines in shopping malls, traffic jams, long shopping lists, and increasing consumerism. When the stress is over after the holidays, we are left with presents to return, gift certificates that we don't know what to buy with, credit card debt that will take forever to pay off, and this empty feeling that we somehow missed the purpose of Christmas.
Is this what we want from Christmas this year?
Do we want to be left with that empty feeling again?
Or do we want to do it differently this year?
What if we could turn our attention back to Christ and back to the Christmas message - the message of love, compassion, peace, and forgiveness? Jesus gave us the best example: he became poor to love the poor, the lost, the sick, the brokenhearted, and the forgotten.
We can do the same by joining Him in giving resources to those who need help the most, because they don't have anything. One less gift to return to the stores. One more person that will be drinking from a well. One more present in the name of Christ. One more person to say "Merry CHRISTmas" in a different way!
